The Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL) is calling applications from Sri Lankan hotels to compete in the annual Green Hotels competition, organised by the association to recognise the sustainability practices adopted by those hotel firms.
This will be a continuation of a very successful Greening Hotel award scheme initiated by the EU sponsored Greening Sri Lanka Hotels program.
The competition, which will be open to all large, medium and small hotels (members and non-members of THASL), will reward hotels that have shown commitment to sustainable business practices, covering a broad spectrum of activities.
The hotel firms that have implemented best sustainable practices in energy, water and waste management, followed sustainable customer engagement methods, have taken dedicated sustainability initiatives and that have also on a year-on-year basis, initiated new projects towards bringing in green practices to their respective hotels, will be recognised at the proposed competition.
Hotels with more than 50 rooms will fall under the Large category, while rooms with 50 rooms or less will fall under the SME category.
The competition will present the “Best THASL Green Hotels” award separately for both Small and the Large category hotels, while the “THASL Green Hotels Champions” awards category will be open to hotels that have taken sustainability initiatives in energy, water and waste management practices. Merit awards will also be given to the hotels that have achieved a minimum threshold standard of sustainability practices.
The event will also help hotels to gain local and global recognition for their sustainability activities and also demonstrate to stakeholders, including the guests, their commitment to environmentally-friendly tourism practices.
To download entry applications or view the competition’s guidelines, please visit www.thasl.lk or contact the THASL Secretariat on (011) 5588816 / 5588855 for any clarifications.
All applications should be received by the THASL Secretariat on or before October 2014 at 4.30 p.m. The top left-hand side of the envelope should be marked “Tourist Hotels Association Green Hotel Awards 2014”.
