With Sri Lankans finding new freedom to travel the entire nation geographically, the north and east have become favourite travel destinations. With this in mind, Travelon has introduced three tours within Sri Lanka and a customary New Year tour to Vietnam during 13-21 April.

The first tour is during the long weekend of 23-26 March where three iconic Buddhist temples will be covered. Thiriyaya Watadageya or Girihanduseya is considered to be the first stupa in Lanka at which Lord Buddha’s strands of hair are enshrined. Seruwawila and the famed Somawathiya are also in the itinerary. It includes overnight stays are at Sea Lotus Park, Uppuveli, Anilana Luxury Resort in Passikudah and The Lake in Polonnaruwa.

The second tour is a road/rail combo, a collaboration between Travelon, P.G. Martin Transporters and Expo Rail during the Easter long weekend. On 29 March (Friday), the group will travel to Nuwara Eliya by P.G. Martin luxury coaches, inclusive of a two night stay at the Galway Forest Hotel. A Horton Plains excursion is also on the cards. The group will travel back to Colombo by Expo Rail, Nanuoya-Colombo (open deck) on Sunday, 31 March.

The ever popular Mullaitivu war tourism package will be on during 4 to 6 April. As a value addition, Travelon has added Vishwamadhu (near Paranthan), which is not usually added on to the itinerary. In addition to Vishwamadhu (fruit gardens, torture chambers and Prabhakaran’s hospital), the usual site visits of Mullaitive, Nandikadal Lagoon, Wellamullawaikkal, Puthukuduirrippu and Pudumatalan have also been included (12 site visits).

The third luxury tour by Travelon to Vietnam will be from 13 to 21 April (during New Year Holidays). The unique feature of this tour is the inclusion of the world famous Sapa hill station by sleeper train in addition to Ho Chi Minh City, Cu Chi tunnels, Dannang, Hoi An, Hue, Hanoi and Halong Bay. The Vietnam Embassy in Sri Lanka in association with Travelon recommended the addition of Sapa to the itinerary which is a pioneering effort by a travel agent in Sri Lanka.
