Whether you are on a cultural quest, an idyllic honeymoon, a rejuvenating wellness programme, a rural adventure or a peaceful pilgrimage to the olden shrines; at Ullagalla Resorts you can expect experiences like no other before.  Once a traditional ‘walawwa’ or grand ancestral home of local chieftains whose rule extended across the Northern Province itself, Ullgalla has a noble past. Its glories have been lovingly restored to former splendour and now offer a glimpse to the traditions of a bygone era.  The concept of preservation was also extended to the development of the entire property and protecting the surrounding environment took precedence. Not a single tree was cut down, and all construction – in strict accordance with Green policies, took place on already utilised land. In fact, nearly a 1000 (root balled) trees were planted in the property.

58 lush acres bordering two ancient reservoirs – Ullagalla and Wannamaduwa, complete with cultivated paddy fields form the heartland of this breathtakingly beautiful resort. And secluded amidst this wilderness, blending perfectly with the surrounds, every comfort and facility awaits you.

20 luxurious chalets – each with its own private plunge pool; offer spacious comforts with all the modern amenities of 21st century living.  Their deep commitment to preserving the environment has earned Gold for Ulagalla Resorts at the prestigious National Green Awards 2011, honouring them as the most eco-friendly boutique resort in the hospitality sector in Sri Lanka.

Ulagalla is also a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified resort with a Silver rating from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).  Green materials were used mainly for construction from the very outset with the walls, floors and ceilings of each chalet being built with ‘Durra’ panels. Made from high density compressed paddy straw fibre Durra is fire and thermal resistant and 100% recyclable.   Several environmental practices are keenly adhered to such as rainwater harvesting, bio-gas powered lighting, non-motorised activities, farming organic produce and more. Ulagalla Resort is the only resort in Sri Lanka to generate 50% of its energy requirement through solar power; contributing excess energy to the National Grid.
