Waters Edge Floating Restaurant opens for public

Defence and Urban Development Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa declared open the Floating Restaurant of Waters Edge last week.

Chairman of the MOD Seva Vanitha Unit Ioma Rajapaksa also accompanied the Defence Secretary at the occasion.

The restaurant, a brainchild of Secretary Defence, was built under the Colombo beautification project in order to attract more local and foreign tourists into the city.

The construction of the floating restaurant was taken under the offshore patrol construction project of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) according to a local plan. The restaurant accommodates 36 to 55 persons onboard at once (excluding the staff) and it is 51 ft in length and 31 ft in breadth.

A technical team of SLN has appointed to deal with mechanical issues and also hotel crew for serving including a chef. The management of the floating restaurant will be done by the Waters Edge Hotel.

According to the management, this is a new experience for the public in the country with fair charges. The restaurant functions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., including three rides per day, which takes an hour. Night rides are also available where the tourists are able to experience the spectacular view of the city during dusk.

In addition, the floating restaurant accommodates individual functions, giving an enjoyment in the evenings amidst the sounds of glittering music with delicious food.

Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilake, former Commander of the Navy (Retd.) Admiral Somathilaka Dissanayaka, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Harshana De Silva, senior officials of the SLN and members of Waters Edge were also present at the opening ceremony.
