The world’s first underwater nightclub will be launched this month. The venue in the Maldives, which is only accessible by boat, will offer party-goers a view of the surrounding sea bed. It was fully built on land before being lowered into the water to minimise damage to the environment and the protected coral reefs.

It has ceiling-to-floor glass windows which will allow revellers to watch sea life lit up by underwater spotlights. The Subsix nightclub at Niyama resort, is 500 meters from the Dhaalu Atoll shore, six metres below the sea.

Steps lead down to the venue from an above-water restaurant. The interior is decked out in luminous glass tables and iridescent turquoise soft furnishings which the club’s designers say mirror the hues of the ocean. The glowing bar tables are lined up in front of the windows to allow customers to watch fish as they sip drinks.

There are also leather armchairs with a bar and DJ decks located at the back of the venue to avoid blocking the view. UK rapper Tinie Tempah is going to perform a set at the club’s official opening on the 27 October. Black Eyed Peas DJ Poet will also perform there on November 2. (London Evening Standard)
