2,115 receive first degrees from University of Ruhuna

De Silva A total of 1,753 internal and 362 external students received their first degrees from Chancellor Venerable Pallaththara Sumanajothi at the 21st convocation of the University of Ruhuna held from the 9 to 11 May. Post-graduate degrees were conferred on 137 academics while the honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (Honorius Causa) was conferred on Justice C.G. Weeramantry. K.V. Methsiri Udayakanthi, H.M. Erangi Jinendrika Heenkenda, W.M. Champika Sriyani Jayaweera and U.P. Shalaka Rohan Wijewardena received the Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medals, which were awarded to graduates with best overall performance for academics, extracurricular activities and core curricular activities. Justice Weeramantry, Professor C.M. Madduma Bandara and Professor H.P.M. Gunasena delivered convocation addresses.
