Agora’24, a celebration of the artistic talent of undergraduates and diverse cultures across the world, which was organised by the Department of Finance of the University of Kelaniya, was held with immense success on 9 November for the third consecutive time. The event is one of the year’s major highlights for the department with it being the biggest event of its first-year undergraduates.
The theme of Agora’24 was based on the tales of Greek mythology, transformed with an additional flair of the colourful and rich Sri Lankan culture. The program, which included events such as traditional Sri Lankan dancing, salsa, 90’s music, drama, baila, and more, was graced by a renowned Sri Lankan actress, author, and activist Michelle Dilhara as the Chief Guest.
The undergraduates were able to spectacularly organise the event and showcase their artistic talents while bringing pride to their department. With a vibrant and impactful existence of 12 years, the Department of Finance is the youngest of the Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, at the University of Kelaniya. The department is equipped with a team of qualified and passionate panel of lecturers with Professor Ruwani Fernando serving as the Head of the Department. It produces future-ready graduates for the financial services industry, offering four degree programs specialised in Finance, Banking, Insurance, and Financial Engineering.
Proving that the department not only leads its students with academic knowledge and theory but also by developing their competency and skills through practical experience, the undergraduates were able to put on a breath-taking performance that stunned the audience. This triumphant outcome was a result of months of the talented freshmen’s unrelenting efforts and commitment, with the support of the seniors and the lecturers, who endured all the difficulties and stayed consistent until the end.
