The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is a highly recognised qualification both here and abroad, where students now find themselves pursuing their dreams and reaching towards their goals. Amongst them are Sajeev Manoharan, currently serving as a Senior Analyst at ICRA Lanka Limited the third Credit Rating Agency in Sri Lanka, Ishantha Tennakoon, Executive Finance at the Colombo Stock Exchange and Zulfath Saheed Business Journalist at Media Services Limited. Sajeev speaking of his experience in competing the qualification said, “The ACCA qualification has clear and concise guidelines in the curriculum that include, sustainable management accounting and analysis, which I was able to easily adapt to the everyday workings in my field. This has been a tremendous asset to my career growth and has contributed in giving me the ability to perform in my job in a manner that impresses my employer.” Further he mentioned that the ACCA qualification also led him to being selected to set up the operations of ICRA Lanka Limited in Sri Lanka and also appointed as the first Analyst of the company. Also adding her comments was Ishantha Tennakoon who affirmed, “ACCA equipped me with a range of skills and competencies in audit, assurance and finance management, all of which has proved to be very valuable to my career.” Ishantha also commended ACCA for their strong focus on professional values, ethics, and governance; which are skills essential for a professional today. Zulfath Saheed Business Journalist at Media Services Limited was another candidate that attributed her career success to ACCA. She said “With my ACCA qualification I gained significant insight into the latest trends in financial management and corporate reporting. This has resulted in assisting me tremendously in my career growth as a business journalist. In my opinion, ACCA is a complete package of qualifications. It is also the most flexible of the lot as it gives students the chance to learn at their own pace and to exploit appropriate opportunities. The course also delves into areas of IFRS and even promotes criticism on certain standards. It also teaches us the importance of being updated on the financial happenings in the world. Flexibility, international recognition, global mobility and their continuous drive for innovation certainly sets ACCA apart from its competitors.” Commenting on these successes, ACCA Sri Lanka Head Nilusha Ranasinghe stated: “The syllabus covers all key knowledge areas required by finance professionals working in business such as Leadership and Sustainable Management Accounting; Corporate Reporting; Strategy and Innovation; Audit and Assurance; Governance; Risk; Professionalism and Ethics; and Financial Management. Therefore it addresses everything that a CEO might reasonably expect a finance leader to be able to handle, and potentially more. The framework serves as a clear demonstration to employers that those with the ACCA qualification are ‘Complete finance professionals’.
