ANC Awards Night & Graduation Ceremony 2014 celebrates academic excellence

ANC Awards Night 2014, a night that recognises the hard work and dedication of the students who have strived to achieve excellence in education at the ANC Education was held recently in Colombo. The occasion was graced by Dr. Jagath Alwis, Chairman of ANC, Dr. Punarjeeva Karunanayake, CEO/Executive Director

of ANC, Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, Chairman of the Securities Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka, Dawn Suni, Cultural Affairs Officer at the US Embassy, Prof Mac Powell, President John F. Kennedy University, Mamiko Reeves, Dean of International Programmes, Dr. Sally Anne-Wilkins, Director of Monash College Diplomas Melbourne and Anne Bright, Director of Monash University Foundation Year and representatives of respective universities and ANC, students and parents. Nearly 300 students graduated, transferred and were High Achievers with 100 or more transferring to eminent universities situated in Australia, USA, UK, Canada and Malaysia to complete their degrees. One of the main highlights of ANC Awards Night this year was the graduation of the first batch of the LLM program done in collaboration with the University of West London, UK. Commending the achievements of the students Dr. Punarjeeva Karunanayake, CEO/Executive Director of ANC said, “To you graduates, the world is a challenging place., but full of opportunities. There are no short cuts. The future is yours for the taking... Be analytical in your thinking process, apply what we have taught you in the your work place and day to day lives and never stop learning.” The night also witnessed the presentation of High and Best Achievement Awards to students who reached exceptional levels at programs conducted in conjunction with John F Kennedy University (JFKU), Northwood University, Missouri

University of Science and Technology (MS&T), Monash College Diploma and Monash University Foundation Year. The Best Achievement Awards of each program went to Amanda Chathrapani Kumari (JFKU), Dona Bhagya Dinithi (Northwood University), Bulathsinhalage Nilushka (MS&T), Mathindri Sheranga (MS&T), Shahan Chintaka (Monash College Diploma Programme) and Naduni Amantha (Monash University Foundation Year). Recognising the exceptional work carried out by the students and delivering the key note address Dr. Nalaka Godahewa said, “If you look at the next 20 years Sri Lanka will be like what you have heard of 70s and 80s in Singapore, Hong Kong and those countries. So these are good times to be working, employed and serving the country.” He further said, “Think on your feet... Somebody will tell you to have plans, I say its good to have plans but you can’t stick to plans all the time, circumstances change, take decisions and be flexible in life.”
