Text and pix by Ruzaik Farook Students who achieved more than 5 As at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination and 22 families who hail from low income families in the Colombo District were awarded with scholarships according to a concept of Faiszer Mustapha, Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion, Sri Lanka Freedom Party Organizer for Central Colombo and President’s Counsel at a ceremony held under the patronage of Secretary of National Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya  Rajapaksa at the Auditorium of the National Defence Ministry recently. The Minister awarded a sum of Rs. 3,000 to each student from the Faiszer Musthapha Foundation and this will be continued until the end of the GCE Advanced Level examination. The main objectives of this concept are to minimise the quantity of students who abandon studies after GCE O/Ls due to economic crisis prevailing within the families, enabling an increase in the quantity of students who get selected for tertiary education and to encourage students who expect to participate in the GCE Ordinary Level examination. The progress of the scholarship holders will be observed every three months and if there are students who are not progressive in their studies, the Faiszer Musthapha Foundation would be compelled to take away the scholarships from them and bestow same to other selected students who are suitable to receive scholarships.
