The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) together with the Wayamba Provincial Education Department, Kurunegala, recently conducted a seminar for commerce stream students at Narammala Central College under its ‘SisuNena’ seminar series.

The seminar that enlightened the students on a number of Sri Lanka Accounting Standards that are applicable for the GCE Advanced Level examination was conducted by Chartered Accountant Upendra Wijesinghe, who is also the Head of Technical Division, CA Sri Lanka.

In keeping with its role as the country’s national accounting body, CA Sri Lanka successfully spearheaded a series of seminars under its ‘SisuNena’ program in its continuing endeavour to enlighten and expand the knowledge of students in the commerce stream.

The seminar held at Narammala Central College saw a massive participation of over 400 students who were provided with a thorough understanding on the importance of choosing a globally recognised professional qualification such as the course offered by CA Sri Lanka.

“Despite the growing career options available to students today, the demand for our qualification has kept intact. During 2012, our active student base passed the 40,000 milestone, which is a strong testament for our commitment to maintain the standard of our qualification and our continuing endeavour to provide our students and members with the best of facilities. Nearly 60% of our student are from areas outside Colombo and are from all walk in life. Through our qualification, we have been able to harness opportunities for these students to further their professional education in the field of finance; and reach the pinnacle of the profession as Chartered Accountants,” said Sujeewa Rajapakse, President of CA Sri Lanka.

“We are indeed proud to have been in the forefront of our professional sphere laying a firm foundation to the country’s financial landscape. Being the National Body of Accountants, promoting accounting knowledge and best practices in the country has been high on agenda since our inception in 1959. The ‘SisuNena’ seminar series which was initiated with this objective has been a tremendous success,” said Aruna Alwis, Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka.

Through the ‘SisuNena’ seminar series, students are not only given the necessary psychological boost necessary to face the examinations with confidence but also the guidance to choose their line of profession wisely.
