Ian Marshall, the Regional Education Manager of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), was on a four day visit to Sri Lanka recently. This is an important activity of the CIM Sri Lanka Region’s annual event calendar. The CIM UK carries out similar programmes with the aim of maintaining global standards to ensure that it’s met across all regions.

In order to enhance the knowledge of the lecturers of CIM with the new syllabus, a seminar was held on Thursday 10 March at Hotel Ramada, attended by over 30 lecturers, representing the CIM Accredited study centres in the country.

The seminar focused on the new assessment criterion and CIM Assignment Administration Procedures. Prior to the event the lecturers were given the opportunity to note down the challenges that students face in terms of an assignment.

Marshall pointed out several important facts, and explained how students should be briefed on the assignment, the necessity to encourage students to work on their own and the methodology that should be used in their projects. He stressed on the fact that students should be given a thorough understanding of the subject in order to work on their assignment.

Speaking to the tutors, Marshall said that it was a pleasure to note the progress made by the Sri Lankans in the past one year since the end of the military conflict, especially in the field of marketing as a profession. He congratulated the CIM Sri Lanka Region, CIM Accredited Tuition Centres and all the CIM members on their contribution to this development.

The event was followed by fellowship and a dinner, which was attended by both lecturers and the board and management committee of CIM Sri Lanka Region.

CIM is the world’s largest and most prestigious professional body of marketing and the CIM Sri Lanka Region is the fastest growing CIM body, with nearly over 3000 members in Sri Lanka.
