EDEX Expo 2013 completes a decade of service

The pioneering national higher education and careers Expo EDEX, on Thursday unveiled its 10 consecutive Expo on 18, 19, and 20 January at BMICH Colombo and will move on to Kandy City Centre Kandy on 25 and 26 January.

EDEX with an unparalleled service of a decade to the community remains as Sri Lanka’s single largest platform that offers a host of choices, options and opportunities to aspiring youth from all social strata.

Since its inception in 2004, EDEX has educated the youth of Sri Lanka about diverse tertiary education and career opportunities that exist and have guided them towards many lucrative careers.

EDEX is increasingly being patronised by senior students, parents, school leavers, unemployed, underemployed and other interested persons seeking higher educational, technical or vocational training opportunities or professional qualifications.

Among this year’s participants will be exhibitors from over 21 different countries, representing over 250 universities, occupying more than 300 stalls.

Participants represent reputed universities from North America, Europe, Russia, China, Japan, the SAARC Region, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand that are ranked high by many global standards.

There will also be many local tertiary educational, professional, vocational and technical training institutes from both Government and private sectors, offering many options to gain advanced knowledge and enhanced skills.

EDEX Expo will also offer services of many career guidance counsellors at both Colombo and Kandy to assist and guide deserving youth and their parents in identifying fulfilling and well rewarding career paths.

Career guidance seminars will also be conducted with free inclusive of an onsite psychometric test to guide students to select their best suited careers.

EDEX Expo 2013 is endorsed by the Presidential Secretariat, Ministries of Education, Higher Education, Youth Affairs and Skills Development, Environment and Labour and Labour Relations.

The Strategic partners are The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) and Sri Lanka Association of Software and Service Companies (SLASSCOM).

Esoft and ANC education are also some long standing platinum sponsors of EDEX Expo, with more than three years of contributions. Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and CINEC are gold Sponsors with more than two years of continued contributions.

This year, they are also joined by NIBM-NSBM in platinum category and Etisalat as a gold sponsor. Central Environmental Authority is the exclusive sponsor of green zone, for the second successive year.

EDEX in Colombo and Kandy will feature opportunities for spot admissions at substantially reduced rates to various academic, vocational, technical and professional courses and post graduate programs offered by local and foreign institutions, with further opportunities to win full/partial scholarships.

At EDEX Expo 2013 too, SriLankan Airlines will offer substantially discounted air tickets for parents and students.

EDEX Chairman Kamal Abeysinghe, said that prior to commencement of EDEX, a single platform that contained a variety of opportunities was only a dream for many. Envisioned to ‘Empower Sri Lankan youth to be globally competitive’, EDEX has made that dream a reality since 2004 to youth of Sri Lanka.

He further said that success of EDEX is well attributed its devoted past and present team members, all stake holders that include presidential secretariat, related government line ministries, sponsors, event partners, strategic partners, and most importantly the exhibitors.
