EDEX Mid-Year Expo: Empowering youth to meet global needs

EDEX has earned a reputation to offer ‘Choices’, ‘Options’ and ‘Opportunities’ to empower aspiring Sri Lankan youth to be globally competitive in the sphere of school to work transition with numerous initiatives offered throughout the year. The EDEX Mid-Year Expo 2014, will be a platform showcasing tertiary education, skills and careers to be held this 30 and 31 August. The Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre becomes the venue for the second Mid-Year edition which is also the third EDEX Exhibition for the year. Many recognised tertiary educational institutes, vocational and skills development institutes and corporate entities have confirmed their participation in the Mid-Year Expo and Job Fair 2014, which promises to deliver the shared vision of EDEX with a consistent commitment and delivery excellence which has become synonymous with EDEX EXPOs throughout its 11 year history. EDEX Mid-Year Expo will facilitate spot admissions to selected academic, vocational, technical and professional courses and post graduate programmes offered by both local and foreign institutions. Discounted course fees, full or partial scholarships and other offers with financial support options will enable students to fast track their career paths in an affordable manner. There will be over 145 stalls represented by 85 exhibitors including representatives from universities in 11 countries at this year’s Expo. ANC Education, NIBM-NSBM, Royal Institute Colombo and Nawaloka-Swinburne have joined hands with EDEX as Platinum Sponsors. Villa College will be the Gold sponsor. The British Council will collaborate with the organisers, managing a UK Pavilion representing universities from the United Kingdom. Concurrently held EDEX Job Fair 2014, seeks to become a conduit between the seekers of ‘right employment’ and the ‘right employers’ and to bring together the demand and supply of employment under one roof.  It will showcase global employment trends, provide professional career guidance and resources leading to gainful employment for discerning Sri Lankan youth. Unilever has joined EDEX Job Fair as its sponsor strengthening the collective resolve to assist discerning youth to gain meaningful employment. There will be 42 stalls represented by over 20 corporates at the Job Fair. EDEX Mid-Year Expo 2014 has been endorsed by the Presidential Secretariat, Ministries of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development, Ministry of Environment and Renewable Energy Ministry of Labour and Labour Relations, Ministry of Productivity Promotion and the International Labour Organization (ILO). The Employers’ Federation of Ceylon will support EDEX Job Fair as a strategic Partner along with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) and Sri Lanka Association of Software Service Companies (SLASSCOM).
