By Ruzaik Farook Having perfected the country’s pioneering and most comprehensive platform offering seamless connectivity from education to training to gainful careers, thus catering to the growing aspirations of Sri Lankan youth, the EDEX EXPOs are now organised bi-annually, at three locations – Colombo BMICH, Kandy-City Centre (KCC) and the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC). The second Mid-Year Expo 2014 to be held this August at SLECC, Colombo Fort, promises to be better than the inaugural Mid-Year fair last year. Timed perfectly to capture the post A/L students (local and London exams), the organisers have carefully considered their specific needs, in offering the array of choices, options and opportunities appealing to youth. The Mid-Year Expo is created as an equal platform and will be an opportunity not to be missed. The exhibition is also one that offers many facets, features and value additions attractive to discerning youth. Parents and students can interact with the counsellors and advisers, of each respective education service provider, and discuss the opportunities in real-time. EDEX Mid-Year Expo will also facilitate spot admissions to selected academic, vocational, technical and professional courses and post graduate programs offered by both local and foreign institutions. Discounted course fees, full or partial scholarships, and other offers with an impact on financial aid will enable students to fast track their career paths in an affordable manner. The Mid-Year Expo will also feature a second ‘Job-Fair’ concurrently owing to the greater demand from both jobseekers and leading employers. Many leading corporate institutions found the Job Fair to be a novel experience and an opportunity to tap in to a large and diverse pool of qualified and talented youth seeking their first job as well as ones with experience yet underemployed seeking their dream job. Some companies were even successful in hiring the ‘right fit’ for few positions with rare and specialised skill requirements. There will be more value added services such as career guidance and counselling, valuable seminars filled with knowledge, answers to questions, and doorways to new careers; an on-site psychometric testing, a tool which will open your eyes to the correct career paths and new vistas and will guide you to choose the right career path, best suited to each youth. The Mid-Year Expo will be a platform ideal for branding and new educational product and service launches. One brand that has an eternal quality at each Expo is that of youth, who will blend seamlessly with all the others, in a quest to stand out and will be a prime audience. For those who wish to capitalise on the ‘market of brands’ the Mid-Year Expo offers the locale, the space and the target-market which are all geared to enhance products or services. Commenting on the prospects of the Mid-Year Expo, Project Chairperson Nandun Chandraratne said, “This year’s Mid-Year Expo will surpass its predecessor, as we have created a larger arena for the youth and their parents to meet some of the best brands in education, with each student’s educational or career aspiration in mind. This Expo will be catalyst in making the dreams of many youth a reality.” For further information, please contact the EDEX Secretariat on 011 5521 497 or visit www.edex.lk.
