Finance and accounting careers in BPO/KPO industry for CIMA students

An event was held at CIMA Sri Lanka Division on last Thursday to educate CIMA students about newly emerging career opportunities for them in the BPO/KPO industry and about the joint program launched by CIMA Sri Lanka and Lanka BPO Academy. The event was organised by the CIMA Sri Lanka Division and Lanka BPO Academy.

The outsourcing industry is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. There has been an annual growth rate of over 20% year on year over the last few years.

The financial and accounting (F&A) services outsourcing sector has had a significant growth in Sri Lanka. The country now has the world’s largest pool of UK qualified English speaking accounting professionals outside the UK itself. Many global companies have chosen to set up their niche centres that expertise in a certain area in Sri Lanka.

CIMA Sri Lanka Regional Manager for Student Support Kanchana De Silva made the welcome speech. She invited the CIMA students to look at this new industry as an opportunity and CIMA was happy to take initiatives to help grow this domain.

Commenting on the new initiative Lanka BPO Academy CEO Yasas Vishuddhi Abeywickrama said that it was exciting to seethe opportunities coming up in BPO and KPO space for CIMA students. He said, “Lanka BPO Academy is ready to help CIMA students to gear themselves up with necessary knowledge and skills required for the F&A BPO sector. We will help them enter into exciting careers within the sector which offers them with fast career progression when compared with other options available.”

The Lanka BPO Academy (LBA – www.lankabpoacademy.lk) is the dedicated entity to develop human capital for the Sri Lankan BPO industry. LBA is the exclusive Sri Lankan partner of BPO Certifications Institute Inc. (BCI), the world’s largest body for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Certifications.

Hayleys CIO Ajith Dandeniya spoke about career options available in the BPO industry. He explained about the skills required to excel in the BPO sector. He explained that Sri Lanka has a phenomenal opportunity in the BPO space globally enabling young school leavers to achieve significant career progression in quick time. He appreciated the initiative by Lanka BPO Academy in developing the industry by capacity building. Kanishka Munasinghe from Infomate, the John Kheells BPO also spoke at the event.
