Chow Lee, Dean – International Admissions of DeVry University USA, recently became the first ever DeVry official to visit Sri Lanka when he included Colombo in his South Asian itinerary.

One of the largest private post-secondary educational institutions in the US and the second largest career school, DeVry boasts of an enrollment of over 85,000 students in over 90 plus locations across USA and Canada.

Keen on establishing global partnerships, DeVry became interested in Sri Lanka after Priyanthi Dissanayake (www.scholarshipsforusa.com), the island’s foremost independent student recruiter to the US, visited DeVry Chicago and promoted Sri Lanka as an ideal gateway to South Asia.

One of the important meetings Lee had was with Professor Alfred Perera, Dean of Informatics Institute of Technology, where Lee offered to consider the possibility of transferring IIT’s students of BSc in Business who have completed three years to DeVry to complete the DeVry’s business degree in one year.

Graduates of this programme can work for a year after graduation under Optional Practical Training (OPT) before returning to Sri Lanka or entering DeVry’s Keller’s Graduate School of Management to pursue a Masters degree.

During his short stay in Colombo, Lee also met Prof. Gunapala Nanayakkara, founder Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Management and Managing Director of the recently launched Graduate School of Management Colombo. The areas discussed for collaboration were the possibility of accepting courses offered by the institute into DeVry’s business programmes and possible 2+2 or 3+1 type of collaborations.
