Benefits students across the country One of the noteworthy features of a good education is its ‘accessibility’ irrespective of ethnicity, gender, caste, religion, social background and location that will result in ensuring a high level of literacy across the country. With a large number of students sitting for the GCE Advanced level examination and only a limited number of them qualifying to enter the state universities each year, students have no option but fallback on the private sector to quench their thirst for higher knowledge. However accessibility to such education has been limited to those who reside in main cities. Taking these factors into context, The Global Training Centre (GTC) launched its services with the mission of bringing globally recognised qualifications to the doorstep of those talented students in all parts of the country. The methodology adopted by them is distance learning which is now one of the most preferred educational options for hundreds of thousands of students across the world. This is mainly due to it being an interactive tool that allows students to learn at their pace, on their own schedule at convenient locations. Speaking of their initiative in launching their institute, GTC Group CEO Chandana Senaratne stated, “We understand that students cannot always adjust their schedule to travel constantly to main cities to attain their dream of obtaining a globally accepted degree. This is where our institute will play a key role in offering students the option of distance learning that will allow them to study at their own pace from the comfort of their own home.” Interactive classrooms “They also gain the benefit of not missing any lectures as they can access them at any time through a computer with an internet connection to the BLACKBOARD, which is GTC’s online interactive classrooms. At the end of every session an online review will be conducted in all three languages to clarify any doubts of the students and to also provide them the opportunity to gain any additional knowledge that they require of the relevant subjects.” Outlining the qualifications offered, Senaratne explained, “We collaborate with leading academic bodies to establish a curriculum that meets the demands of the industry. The range of qualifications offered by us includes ACCA, ABE, BCS and ESOL.” He further affirmed, “As a genuine distance learning provider, all our programs are accredited by these globally recognised bodies. Upon completion of their chosen qualifications, GTC also ensures that students gain the chance to apply for job opportunities in leading blue chip companies. The student will find it to be cost effective as they do not have to invest in the cost of accommodation unlike if they were to travel or live in main towns to obtain their degrees.  They will also enjoy the services of a friendly and experienced tutor who they can interact with on a one-to-one basis. Students are also provided periodic documents, which will help them review their learning. Another added benefit is that these will be provided with multilingual support in both Sinhala and Tamil if required.” GTC is a subsidiary of Teleios Global Ltd. They are the only affiliated institute in Sri Lanka to offer industry relevant qualifications designed around the best practices in online delivery. Students will receive the same certificate as that of an on campus student since all the examinations are conducted by British Council. GTC also offers services that will further enhance student experiences through their student orientation services and academic and career counselling resources.
