Gunathilake selected for Truman State University internship at Missouri Capitol

KIRKSVILLE, Mo.: Laknath Gunathilake of Colombo, Sri Lanka, has been selected to participate in Truman State University’s Missouri Government Internship Program during the spring 2015 semester. Gunathilake is one of only 12 students chosen to participate in the program. He will be interning in the office of Missouri State Representative Mike Colona. Truman offers the Missouri Government Internship Program as a unique opportunity for students to intern with a legislator or public official. The program provides the participating student with an inside look at state government and the political process. This internship program is one of the oldest and most prestigious full-time internships in Missouri state government. Gunathilake is a political science major at the University. Founded in 1867, Truman is Missouri’s highly selective public liberal arts and sciences university. Truman has the highest graduation rate among the state’s public colleges and universities and approximately 50% of Truman students pursue an advanced degree immediately upon graduating. US News & World Report has rated Truman as the No. 1 public university in the Midwest region for 18 consecutive years. Washington Monthly recognised the school as the No. 2 master’s university in the nation and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance named Truman as one of the 100 Best College Values for 2015.
