Hilton Colombo and Hilton Colombo Residences participated in Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month, Hilton Worldwide’s largest-ever global career event showcasing to young people the many opportunities available in the hospitality industry.

Throughout the month of May, Hilton Worldwide hotels and corporate offices around the globe are hosting hundreds of events to inform those looking for employment, including young people, about the vast array of exciting opportunities available to all in the hospitality industry. BUP_DFT_DFT-17_02-13

This event is part of Bright Blue Futures, a global program that encourages team members to donate their time and expertise to help young people achieve stability and bring hope to their communities, preparing them for a brighter future.

Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality events are a unique opportunity for Hilton Worldwide Team Members to inspire those looking for employment about careers in the hospitality industry, and to support them by providing guidance on the skills that are vital to succeed in the workplace and beyond. Participants have been joining Hilton Worldwide Team Members for events ranging from résumé clinics, to career speed-networking, as well as presentations from team members on their career paths.

On 21 May, Hilton Colombo together with Hilton Colombo Residences hosted an event that saw 400 students from schools, private educational institutions and hotel schools receive first-hand experience of how a hotel operates and also conducted an open forum encouraging students to ask questions from the general managers of the two properties.

Hilton Colombo General Manager Manesh Fernando said: “Young people continue to face challenging employment prospects, so it is more important than ever to make sure they receive information and advice about the options available and the skills and attributes they will need once they embark on their chosen careers.”

“We are passionate about raising awareness of the opportunities the hospitality industry offers and we are delighted to be doing this through one of our biggest ever careers events across the globe,” said Hilton Colombo Residences General Manager Karim Schadlou.

Careers@Hilton Live: Youth in Hospitality Month is a part of Hilton Worldwide’s Open Doors commitment, which aims to positively impact at least one million young people by 2019 and better prepare them to reach their full potential.

Anyone unable to attend an event in person during the month of May can still take part in Hilton Worldwide’s digital ‘Career Concierge’. Those interested in learning more about careers in hospitality can submit their questions online via Twitter using hashtag #CareersatHilton, or through the form at www.hiltonworldwide.com/youth. Each week in May, this website will be updated to host a selection of the submitted questions, answered by a panel of Hilton Worldwide team members.
