Horizon Campus signs MOU with NCUK

Horizon Campus established in 2009 under the visionary leadership of Upul Daranagama, CEO of Horizon Campus, has with a presence of only five years in the industry attained the position of being the largest private sector education institute in Sri Lanka and the only one to obtain recognition by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).

With their vision of imparting and bringing quality education to students in Sri Lanka from some of the most prestigious universities around the world, they recently signed an MOU with NCUK in collaboration with the British Council. This partnership will see both organisations collaborate across several focus areas of mutual interest, in which program opportunities will be explored and developed to complement the expertise of each organisation.

NCUK in partnership with 11 leading UK universities, currently offer “pathway programs” to students who wish to study at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the UK. So far, they have helped over 23,500 NCUK students to progress onto degree courses through their world-class programs. NCUK’s affiliated universities comprise of The University of Bradford, The University of Huddersfield, Leeds Beckett University, The University of Leeds, Liverpool John Moores University, The University of Liverpool, Manchester Metropolitan University, The University of Manchester, The University of Salford, Sheffield Hallam University and The University of Sheffield.

Speaking of their association with Horizon, Georgina Jones, Business Development Director for NCUK stated: “It gives us great pride to announce our partnership with Horizon, the only institute in Sri Lanka to obtain recognition by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) . We believe this collaboration will allow both Horizon and NCUK to exchange knowledge and create a host of mutually beneficial academic opportunities for the students in Sri Lanka. We are confident of Horizon’s commitment to quality and high standards and are positive that it will create valuable opportunities for students in the country to meet the demands of the challenging business environment and bring value to their country.”

Pol O’Morain, Deputy Chair for University of Bradford, School of Management and International Advisory Board added: “We are excited about this venture and are confident that we have selected the right partner to represent us in Sri Lanka.”

Endorsing these comments, the Country Director of the British Council Keith Davis said: “With Sri Lanka’s quest to become a knowledge hub, it is of paramount importance to have skilled human capital available in the country to achieve this objective. Therefore the education institutions on the country play an integral and important role in nurturing the skills and talents of the youth, and to fulfill the aspirations of the nation. Therefore we are happy to see associations such as this where two quality education institutes such as NCUK and Horizon partner to provide high quality degrees which will enable students to enhance their knowledge and learning experience and make a mark in their chosen fields.”

The Horizon Campus is situated among the beautiful outskirts of Malabe just 10 km away from Colombo. It offers 100%, 75% and 50% scholarships for deserving students in selected schools within the country and also assists students with bank loans. They are the only campus in Sri Lanka to offer their students hostel and transport facilities.
