Currently 30 students are pursuing the Derby MBA with HRMI whilst over 70 are progressing towards completing Pre MBA which will lead them to the Research stage of the MBA. Derby, recognised by University Grants Commission – Sri Lanka is ranked first for student support, and third for lecture quality, learning technology and employability, out of all the UK’s modern universities. It’s one of only a few MBAs in the UK that has been accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) – the UK’s professional body for managers and leaders.
When embarking on an MBA, a prospective student must establish without doubt the credentials of the awarding institution and its academic reputation. The esteem and admiration, recognition and respect for a qualification are derived from the awarding institution. The subject coverage and its depth in the learning content is the ingredient that makes a difference in enhancing managerial competencies.
The process of delivering learning and the academic guidance a student receives is the ultimate ‘acid-test’ for effectiveness. Derby, HRMI and Edexcel combination is a perfect example for recognition and respect, content and quality and delivery and support. The course work of the MBA programs is delivered under Edexcel BTEC Level 7 Curriculum which is exclusively focused on Strategy.

The HRMI faculty includes Gihan Talgodapitiya, MBA (NUS), FCMA; Gayani de Alwis, MBA (PIM), MSc (Reading), former Director Customer Care & Supply Chain at Unilever; Rajeeve Gunathilake, BSc (Mech Eng) MSc (Ind Eng) Supply Chain Director at GlaxoSmithKline; Anthony Jayaranjan, FCA, FCMA, Former Head of Learning and Development – John Keells Holdings; Priyanga Dassanayake, MBA (PIM), Territory Business Manager – Oracle Corporation Sri Lanka and Maldives; Maithri Bandaranayaka, LLB (Colombo), MBA, former Head of HR at Pan-Asia Bank.
The Visiting faculty includes Shakthi Ranthunga, MBA (PIM), Group HR Director, MAS Holdings; Roshani Jayasundera-Moreas, MBA (PIM), Executive Vice President, John Keells Holdings; Rajitha Silva, Senior Lecturer, University of Colombo; Dr. Prabath Karunanayaka, Management Consultant; and Prasanna Perera, MBA(PIM), FCIM(UK) Marketing Consultant.
