ICASL ‘Guru Nena’ enlightens teachers in Western Province

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL) together with the Ministry of Education recently conducted a successful seminar on Sri Lanka Accountant Standards for A/L school teachers in the Western Province. The seminar was organised under the ICASL Guru Nena seminar series and held at the institute’s auditorium.  

The institute was honoured to have Kamani Perera, Director of Commerce of the Ministry of Education at the occasion. Addressing the audience Perera enlightened the participants on the new G.C.E Advanced Level Commerce Stream curricular which has been developed with the objective of making students more employable and competitive in the job market. Perera also commended on ICASL’s initiative to assist school teachers be up-to-date with knowledge by organising such seminars as she pledged her fullest support and cooperation in future too.



The seminar was also addressed by T. Dharmarajah, Chartered Accountant, Council Member of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and ICASL. Dharmarajah laid emphasis on the Sri Lanka Accounting Standards 19, 29 and 37 introduced in the new G.C.E. Advanced Level Accounting syllabus.

Addressing the gathering Technical Manager - ICASL Anushka Madurasinghe shared her experience of becoming a Chartered Accountant. She attributed her success to the teachers who guided and encouraged her to pursue a career in accountancy as she highlighted the role of a teacher as a mentor. Anushka became first in the commerce stream at G C E Advanced Level Examination in 2004 and was offered with a full scholarship to follow the Chartered Accountancy qualification.

Being the sole authority in formulating Accounting and Auditing Standards in Sri Lanka, ICASL is actively participating in raising awareness on the Sri Lanka Accounting Standards amongst all its stakeholders.
