India’s No. 1 private university starts operations in Colombo

The SRM University, considered the leading private university in India, has commenced operations in Colombo.

“SRM’s arrival will help strengthen historic relations with our neighbour India due to the knowledge transfer benefits we will gain,” said Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen.

Minister Bathiudeen was addressing the inauguration of the marketing operations of SRM Global’s Sri Lankan arm SRM Lanka as the Chief Guest on 30 October at Galadari Hotel, Colombo.

The 2011 India Today survey ranked SRM University as India’s No. 1 Multiple Streams Private University, selecting its engineering and medicine streams as ‘No. 1’ amongst all. SRM University also recently gained fame in India when it launched a nano satellite ‘SRMSAT’ designed and developed by its engineering students. The 10kg satellite will monitor levels of green-house gases, carbon dioxide and water vapour in the atmosphere.   Elaborating on the importance of SRM’s entry, Minister Bathiudeen said: “I believe that an opportunity is now present for our students to be qualified professionals certified by an institution from our neighbour India. Arrival of more and more international education institutions such as SRM Global gives our students alternatives with regard to their higher education. As I am given to understand, SRM’s reputation not only as No. 1 private university in India but also the No. 1 private engineering university there will contribute to Sri Lanka considerably.”  Highlighting historic relations between both countries, Minister Bathiudeen said: “SRM’s arrival will help strengthen historic relations with our neighbour India due to the knowledge transfer benefits we will have. I am given to understand that SRM has a wide range of degree qualifications to help our youth to seek more avenues including medical, that is the MBBS. I would request Sri Lankan parents to make the maximum use of these higher educational opportunities to build future leaders of Sri Lanka through such new ventures.”
