Opening a new dimension in further education, Ladies’ College will launch the Edexcel BTEC Extended Diploma in Hospitality as a parallel option to the Advanced Level qualifications. This launch event is to take place on 6 May at 5 p.m. at the Ladies’ College Hall. Parents and students attending the launch day will receive valuable information from representatives of Edexcel (UK/Sri Lanka), acclaimed universities and hotel schools (local and overseas), the Cinnamon Group of Hotels and Ladies’ College. Commencing on 1 June, the Extended Diploma is equivalent to Edexcel’s GCE Advanced Level and IAL qualifications, offering practical, hands-on learning. Students completing the Diploma in Hospitality whilst gaining a focused academic program, will in addition acquire valuable work experience in reputed five star hotels during the course. Students opting for the Extended Diploma will receive a solid grounding on topics such as the Hospitality Industry, Principles of Supervising, Leisure, Travel and Tourism, Customer Service and Financial Control in Hospitality among other vital subjects. The Level 3 Extended Diploma combines the best of Edexcel’s academic and BTEC’s vocational qualifications. It aims to create well-rounded students who are equipped with the key skills needed for success in the current career market. Those who successfully complete the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma will also be exempt from the first year of the Hospitality Degrees offered by a few selected universities. Students who wish to obtain the Extended Diploma qualification need to possess five Ordinary Level passes which should include a credit pass in English. Founded in 1900, Ladies’ College has a long tradition of empowering girls of all races and creeds through education.
