Leo Burnett holds Master Class Program Awards 2013

By Sarah Hannan The Leo Burnett Master Class Program Awards 2013 took place on 16 August at the 80 Club, Colombo 7. Fourteen interns graduated at this ceremony, marking a new milestone for Leo Burnett. Leo Burnett Director – People and Culture Kumudini Gomes in her opening address explained that the program had a lifespan of five weeks which saw 14 successful interns out of the 60 applicants that were short-listed to undergo the maiden Master Class Program. She further explained that all these interns were undergrad students in the field of marketing communications, with a mentor and buddy assigned to each of them during the program’s duration. “The 14 interns were separated into four teams and were given a final group project and today we reward them for all that hard work.” Director – Digital Strategy Marsh Dodanwala and Head of Brand Planning Murtaza Tajbhoy were given the honour of scrutinising the final projects. Dodanwela and Tajbhoy shared their thoughts on how well the program was executed and shared their expertise with the interns on how to lay down the strongest solution when working as a team. The duo urged the importance of understanding the key components and advised them to be prepared to answer questions. ‘Team two’ comprising Lishan Peiris, Sandamali Ranasinghe and Nabeel Stifler emerged as the winners, while second place was jointly shared with ‘Team One’ of Saranga Asith, Seylanka Attygala, Hamza Allibhoy, Naushad Ninzer and ‘Team Three’ consisting of Ruan de Silva, Lahiru Halkewela and Aneesha Madugalle. ‘Team four’of Rehan Fernando, Razia Esufally, Jayan J. Singhe and Jeshu Arulrajah were the runners-up. Leo Burnett Sri Lanka Managing Director Ranil de Silva wrapped-up the ceremony stating that this program was conceived through love, respect and deep appreciation he has towards the field of advertising which would create a ‘University of Advertising’ in days to come. He shared one of advertising icon Leo Burnett’s monumental speeches delivered on 6 December 1968 titled ‘Integrity in a World of Change’ and wished all success to the interns and was grateful for his staff for making this dream a reality.
