British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka John Rankin on Monday said that he was impressed by the IT skills in Sri Lanka. Claiming that a number of UK companies have started linking up with local universities in Sri Lanka, Rankin stated that the industry holds more promise and potential than ever before.

“London Stock Exchange partnered with Millennium IT. Aepona Limited has set up its offshore software development centre in Sri Lanka and has employed over 160 people from the country,” Rankin said. “I would like to see the IT sector growing in a faster pace in the country. Mobitel is a key player in this aspect. I hope that with economic development, more people will be able to link into the broadband and wireless network.”
