Grero, speaking of the past 20 years, said: “When I reminisce through the past, it reminds me of the simple beginning we had with just seven students and five teachers. I am proud to say that today we have eight branches around the country, the new additions being in Nuwara Eliya and Anuradhapura. The student population in the parent school has gone up to nearly 4,400 and presently we have around 600 academic and non-academic staff. The entire student population comprises of 15,400 students and the number of staff members now stands at 2,000. “Our purpose in having this school is twofold – to guide a student’s academic growth through the acquisition of sound study habits and development of analytical, independent thinking skills on one hand, and to foster each child’s social, emotional and moral growth on the other. We strive to achieve to goals in our work every way.” He added: “In Lyceum, there are students of multi-religious and multicultural backgrounds but everyone is treated equally, despite their differences. Ours is a private school and an international school. Our aim is to create citizens whose identity is well rooted in our motherland.” Lyceum’s anniversary celebration was attended by Lyceum founder Mohan Lal Grero, Coordinating Principal Kumari Grero, well wishers, past students, present students, teachers and parents.
