Malaysia produces 24-year-old PhD holder

SKUDAI: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia made history when one of its graduates, Hazzirah Izzati Mat Hassim, was named the youngest person in the country to receive a doctorate during the university’s 53rd convocation.

Hazzirah, 24, from Kelantan, who received a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics, has her name penned in the Malaysia Book of Records for her achievement. “I had to come out of my comfort zone and be bold in taking a risk in the field of study,” she said. Her parents and husband Mohd Najib Zakaria were present to share her happiness. Hazzirah said she would pursue her goal to be an academician and continue to do research for the university on the works of Arab mathematician Al-Jabbar. Hazzirah is among 5,590 students in various disciplines who will graduate during the three-day convocation, which ends tomorrow. (Source: nst.com.my)
