British Council announces IELTS-sponsored webinar accessing 98 US universities on 19 Feb.

An online chat and webinar giving students from around the world an opportunity to connect virtually with representatives from colleges and universities in the United States of America, with a section on how to prepare for the IELTS examination has been scheduled for 19 February 2014, announced a press release sent out by the British Council this week. IELTS is sponsoring the International Students Day at US College Week Live, which gives international students, their parents, counsellors, and teachers an opportunity to interact directly with US university representatives and education experts. A total of 98 US universities are participating in the webinar, which uses a unique virtual environment where students can watch videos, obtain information, and chat online with education experts on a variety of topics related to studying in the United States. They can also visit virtual booths of individual US universities. The webinar is in two parts; the first, an hour long webinar scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on 19 February (Sri Lankan time) is an online presentation on ‘how to prepare for IELTS’ for students interested in studying in the USA The second part,, commencing at 3:30 pm on 19 February (Sri Lankan time) is  a live chat portion lasting 14 hours until 5:30 a.m. on the morning of 20 February (5 a.m. to 19 p.m. US Eastern Standard Time on 19 February, 2014). During this period, students get to engage in live chats, interact with university representatives and education experts and learn firsthand about university facilities, courses and US higher education in general. Since US universities accept IELTS as proof of proficiency in English, the first step a Sri Lankan student should take in applying to US universities is to sit the IELTS examination. British Council, its partner organisations island wide and IDP conduct IELTS examinations in Sri Lanka.
