After a phenomenal success with the launch of the Executive MBA in Sri Lanka and after having recruited over 200 students in six batches within a short span of just over a year, NEXT Campus has launched the General MBA for the General MBA from Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU), India. Commenting on the launch of the General MBA from MGU, program, Kumudu Abeyawardane, Programs Director of NEXT, said: “NEXT was the first to introduce an Executive MBA to Sri Lanka. The concept of an Executive MBA was alien to us and some people felt that an Executive MBA was less than an MBA. However the fact of the matter is that everywhere else in the world an Executive MBA is more difficult for people to get into. The Executive MBAs are designed for senior executives of corporates who have substantial work experience and the capacity to take on an accelerated program while working.” Abeyawardane added: “We had a number of requests for a General MBA program from MGU. Quite a few people were interested in doing the program at a slower pace along with a dissertation and as a result we decided to launch the General MBA from February 2014.” 18-month program The General MBA is an 18-month program comprising of 12 months of teaching and a dissertation (thesis or work based project), which needs to be completed over a period of six months. Students who enrol for the MGU MBA have an option of choosing classes from either Saturday only or Sunday. With the NEXT Campus being relocated to Darley Road, Colombo 10 from February onwards, a new MGU MBA weekday evening batch (5:30-8:30 pm twice a week) will be introduced from March 2014. Abeyawardane said: “The introduction of a weekday batch will enable those working in and around the city of Colombo, take on a program of study with minimum hassle and yet keep their weekends free to spend with their families.” Affordable investment In keeping with the motto of MGU ‘Education for All’, the General MBA from MGU is introduced at an affordable investment of Rs. 375,000 which is payable in instalments. While being affordable, MGU together with NEXT Campus has ensured that the quality of the program is in no way compromised. MGU programs are delivered in 35 countries across the world and as a result the syllabus content is truly international. Further MGU is one of the few universities that have understood to true concept of adult learning and as such the assessments are developed and conducted in a manner which reflects the thought process and skills of adult learners.
