Over 100 students graduate from Copal Amba’s Investment Analysis Training Program

Copal Amba’s Investment Analysis Training Program last week reached a milestone of over 100 students graduating to date. 

The program is endorsed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and is accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA, UK), and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA, UK) as a continuous, membership-based professional-development program for the field of investment research. Most of the students who graduated from Copal Amba’s Investment Analysis Training Program secured employment with local capital-market firms.

Last week marks the graduation of 21 participants from the program. At a ceremony held on Friday, 15 May, Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) Director General Vajira Wijegunawardene and Copal Amba Country Head and Director Chanakya Dissanayake awarded certificates and results transcripts to the participants. At the ceremony, Copal Amba also announced the awarding of employment at the company to nine of the program’s participants. The program’s sixth batch commenced training on 20 January and completed training on 17 February, while the seventh batch began training on 10 March, finishing on 7 April. Participants included final-year university students and finance professionals. Participants followed a real-life investment analysis cycle, which included analysing the competitive dynamics of an industry, building detailed earnings models, and establishing a defensible valuation range using multiple methods. 

The program offers participants the opportunity to work with global investment banks and asset managers in the field of investment research, in addition to offering further training in investment note writing.

“Capital markets knowledge and training is an important aspect in the development of a professional and ethical local capital markets industry,” Wijegunawardene said, adding that “Initiatives such as Copal Amba’s Investment Analysis Training Program support the financial literacy of professionals in Sri Lanka.”

“We are pleased to launch a six-month internship opportunity for final-year university students and finance professionals, where Copal Amba will fully sponsor the Investment Analysis Training Program. This is in order to help increase the capital market-trained talent pool in Sri Lanka,” commented Dissanayake. “We look forward to welcoming more batches of like-minded applicants to the program,” he added.
