Over 11,000 new students recently joined the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) to pursue a career in chartered accountancy. In its capacity as one of the largest tertiary educational providers in the country, it attracts a record number of students annually to pursue the institute’s globally recognised qualification in chartered accountancy. With the new registrations, the total active student base of CA Sri Lanka has reached over 44,500 students. The new registrants also included the highest three achieving students at the 2014 GCE Advanced Level Examinations from the commerce stream, who also joined CA Sri Lanka to pursue a professional career as a chartered accountant. CA Sri Lanka President Arjuna Herath said that chartered accountants are versatile professionals who give leadership across multiple sectors in the public and private sectors. “CA Sri Lanka has been in the forefront in offering this benchmark qualification since our institute was established over 55 years ago, and every effort is taken to ensure this qualification meets the growing demand in the market and is on par with global standards,” he said. Herath also added that this year CA Sri Lanka launched its groundbreaking new curriculum which aims to develop a new breed of chartered accountants who will partner businesses of tomorrow with their financial leadership. “We have always attracted the best students and we take every effort required to ensure they are also provided with the best of qualifications,” Herath said. CA Sri Lanka Chief Executive Officer Aruna Alwis said that at least 40% of the CA Sri Lanka members hold top positions across boards as chairman, managing director, CEO, CFO among other high profile positions. “This is testament to the high quality professionals CA Sri Lanka produced.” He also added that over 30% of the CA Sri Lanka members who are chartered accountants are serving top level positions overseas across 40 countries.
