Pioneers’ Expo, Sri Lanka’s first ever youth festival, organised by the United Nations Clubs of Visakha Vidyalaya and D.S. Senanayake College, will be held at Ape Gama, Colombo on 3 and 4 June.
The central theme of the Expo will be the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event, for the first time in the island, will provide a platform for youth to convey ideas, expectations and solutions through different forms of expression. It will also demonstrate how they wish a sustainable future to be created and shaped by working towards achieving the 17 SDGs. It’s vital for youth to be integrated into the planning and implementation of the SDGs as it’s the youth who will be leading the remodelled sustainable world in the future.
The SDGs were adopted by many countries at the UN Sustainable Development Summit held in 2015 with the objective of initiating development that meets current needs by ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring prosperity while simultaneously ensuring that the ability of future generations to meet their own needs is not compromised.
