Rotaract Club of Colombo North installs New President

Rotaractor Zalik Azlan Burah was installed as the 20th. President 2012/2013 of the Rotaract Club of Colombo North at an installation ceremony held at the Galadari Hotel Colombo recently.

Zalik became a member of the Rotaract Club of Colombo North in 2010 to revive the club when it was in a dormant state. He was an Exco member ever since and contributed throughout towards the growth of the club.  He also gave leadership to many events, which was highly appreciated by both its other members and the members of the Rotary parent club.

Zalik Burah’s installation ceremony was graced by Rotarian Marshad Barry, the Immediate Past President Rotary Club of Colombo North, as the Chief Guest, and Rtr. PP. Dilhan S. Jayatilleke as the District Rotaract Representative 2012/2013, among other distinguished guests and members of the numerous Rotaract clubs.

Rotaract Club of Colombo North (RCCN) was chartered on 2 March 1994.  It is a vibrant club and won the most ‘Outstanding Rotaract Club of the Year’ in 2010 under the revived clubs category under the presidency of Rtr. Mohamed Husni and won the ‘Outstanding Rotaract Club of the Year’ in 2011 under the presidency of Rtr. Adhil Bakeer Markar. It made history by initiating and holding the Youth Model United Nations (YMUN) conference in Sri Lanka, which was an international event also under the presidency of Rtr. Adhil.  

In his speech at his installation as President Zalik thanked his secretary Rtr. Indiwarie Udeshika who tirelessly worked to make this event a success and also his other Board Members who had given their unstinted support throughout.     

Zalik is presently reading for a dual major in computer science at the Australian College of Business Technology (ACBT) and is in the final year of completing his degree. Zalik successfully completed his first year in Information Technology at the Asian Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT).  He also holds a Diploma in Islamic Banking from the Institute of Bankers Sri Lanka.

Zalik is an alumnus of D.S. Senanayake College Colombo 7. He played rugby, basketball and tennis for the college team. He was a member of the Interact Club of the college and was involved in many other extracurricular activities and held key membership positions in school societies.
