Rotary and SLITAD takes ‘Leadership’ to Jaffna

Sri Lanka Institute of Training & Development (SLITAD) together with Rotary Clubs of Jaffna and Colombo East, ran a two-day training programme in Jaffna on 26 and 27 February 2010. The training covered “Leadership Effectiveness,” “Business Communication,” and “Motivation and Persuasiveness.”

 This project was mooted and ably organised by Dharshan John, District-Governor nominee of Rotary Sri Lanka and Chairman of Dwellco Ltd.



The training faculty, headed by Rotarian Past President Nalin Jayasuriya PHF, included Brig. Dr. Lakshman David, Vice President of SLITAD and Maheshi Premasinghe, all of whom represented SLITAD. Nalin Jayasuriya who is also the President of SLITAD for 2010/2011, stated that he was deeply touched by the genuine yearning of the people to learn and develop. He also said that the people in the Jaffna peninsula showed great humility, sincerity and was truly overjoyed that we went out from Colombo to share our knowledge and experiences with the people of Jaffna. We want to do more of this and to share knowledge, skills with our fellow-citizens in the North.

The training areas run on both days covered Leadership – How to source your inner potential, motivation and persuasion to create impact and Communicating for action.  Day one was for the Rotaractors and Interactors from the peninsula whilst the day two was for managers from the corporate world of Jaffna. 56 persons registered for the first day whilst 92 persons registered for the second day.

The certificates of participation were presented to the participants by Saravanabavan, Member of Parliament, Tamil National Alliance. In his speech, the M.P. spoke of the great opportunity for developing knowledge and skills that has been created in Jaffna by the SLITAD and Rotary. He urged the participants to make full use of this and apply this knowledge to their lives and workplaces.

The programme was held in the auditorium of the Hatton National Bank, Chunnakkam which was given free of charge with all facilities for this event by the courtesy of R. Theagarajah, Managing Director of HNB.
