The Royal College Union – Group of 93, past pupils of one of the country’s oldest and reputed leading secondary educational institutions Royal College Colombo, yesterday announced the opening of the new refurbished and reequipped Primary Computer Laboratory. The new facility which has been re-equipped with facilities such as original HP computers, Wi-Fi, modern air conditioning and modern teacher training facility was declared open yesterday by Lalith Weerathunga – an  eminent old Royalist and the Secretary to the President of Sri Lanka. Royal College Union – Group of 93 President Jayampath Attanayake stated: “The Royal College Union – Group of 93 has been a very active one. While the group has implemented a series of projects such as Wi-Fi system for the school – something that was a first to any school in Sri Lanka, building of junior toilets and the making of the junior school gate, the refurbishment and re-equipping of the Primary School Laboratory was the largest project that we have taken upon ourselves. This is a proud moment for us as through this project, we were not only able to give back something to the college that helped us learn from books and learn from men but were also able help our children – the future Royalists of Sri Lanka to have that ICT foundation, which will help them face the dynamic techno- world of tomorrow.” The refurbishing and re-equipping of the Primary Computer Laboratory is the first of many projects planned by the Infrastructure Management Committee and members of the Royal College Union belonging to  various class groups with the objective of preserving the school’s historical buildings and protecting the heritage and tradition created since 1835 for future generations to come. Royal College Union Secretary Chandana L. Aluthgama stated: “Royal College has a history of over 179 years – a rich tradition that has to be protected for future generations. This project is a sheer example to our commitment to not only protect and preserve the history of the College but to also create a platform- a foundation for future Royalists to learn their basics, enabling them to face the dynamic world of tomorrow. This project is just the first of many more projects which are in the pipeline and I urge all old Royalists to come forward and pledge their support towards their Alma Mater.” This project was implemented by donations given by members of the Royal College Union Group of 93, whilst ROCCOBA also contributed towards the purchase of the HP computers.
