In keeping with Sampath Bank’s commitment in caring for students and their wellbeing, five students who obtained highest marks at the Year 5 scholarship examination this year were awarded cash prizes and stationary items at the Sampath Centre recently.

Three students had topped the list with 195 marks and the other two had obtained 194 – one mark less.

Of the five lucky students Mahammadu Naleem Zaky Ahamed (Kekirawa Muslim Maha Vidyalaya), Nethmi Ranaweera (Dodangoda Miriswatta Maha Vidyalaya) and Oshadi Rashiprabha of (Kalutara Balika Maha Vidyalaya) had got 195 marks while the other two – Parameshwaran Shethuragavan (Neththaliyaru Tamil Vidyalayam – Visuvamadu West) and Ishan Lakshitha Sathsara Sumanapala (Medagama Maha Vidyalaya) had obtained 194 marks.

In addition, top five winners of each district will also get cash prizes. They will be notified to collect the cash from the nearest branches of Sampath Bank. Incidentally, the prize will be doubled for those who have ‘Sampath Pubudu’ and ‘Sampath Sapiri’ accounts.

A series of seminars was organised early this year by the bank for the benefit of Year 5 students where they had an opportunity of learning methods of managing time in writing answers and also the way to answer difficult questions. The most likely questions were also discussed. Account holders of ‘Sampath Pubudu’ and ‘Sampath Sapiri’ children’s accounts as well as non-account holders could participate at the seminars.

This was the second successive year that these seminars were held. According to the feedback by students, they found them most useful. Sampath Bank will continue the CSR initiative as an annual feature to keep its momentum and hope to add more benefits as the years go by.

The seminars are only one of many valued added features of the ‘Sampath Pubudu’ and ‘Sampath Sapiri’ children’s accounts. While Pubudu account holders are eligible for a range of gifts, Sapiri accounts offer higher interest. Account holders of both are entitled to overseas trips as well as free healthcare and personal insurance covers depending on the amount in their accounts.

The top five depositors in a single year are given a tour to Singapore accompanied by a parent. Account holders who obtain top marks at the scholarship examination are given handsome cash awards, both at national and district levels.

Free annual healthcare insurance cover of Rs. 100,000 for hospitalisation expenses in any

emergency as well as free annual Personal Accident Insurance cover of Rs. 100,000 for the account holder and the parent are made available for those who maintain Rs. 100,000 or more.

The initial deposit for a Sampth Pubudu or Sapiri account is Rs. 1,000. The gift range for Pubudu account holders range from school bags to BMX bikes to DSI vouchers, digital cameras and iPods.
