Sandali off to University of Toledo in Ohio

Sandali Weerasinghe, a well known sports star from Gateway College Colombo (www.gatewaycollege.lk) recently became Scholarships For USA Ltd.’s (www.scholarshipsforusa.com) first student at University of Toledo in Ohio USA (www.utoledo.edu). Prior to her departure she was introduced to Kasturi Wilson Managing Director Hemas Transportation Sector (www.hemas.com). Sandali was both a basketball and netball star at Gateway. In basketball she has captained all age groups from under 13 to under 19 winning the Inter-International Schools Under 13,15,17,19 championships and was a member of the Champions team at the Under 19 All island basketball Tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Basketball Association. She was also was awarded the Best Offensive Player of the tournament. In Netball she was a star player and won the Inter-International Schools under 13, 15 and Over 15 championship and was crowned the Netball Queen in 2009 and 2011. She also won Best Shooter in 2007 and for three consecutive years from 2011-2013 and was named the highest scorer ever produced by an international school to have scored 27/28 goals. In swimming at the Inter-International Swimming Championships she won a gold medal for Individual Medley. Sandali plans to major in Biology. Kasturi Wilson is the Managing Director of the Groups’ Transportation sector and is a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK. She has a wide range of experience in multiple industries and functions spanning from auditing, consulting, logistics, leisure, Travel, Shared Services and Systems and Process. In 2011 Wilson took up the position of Managing Director of the Transportation Sector which constitutes of the Aviation, Maritime and Logistics business segments of Hemas. Kasturi is a well known sports personality having represented the National Women’s Basketball Team at the Asian Games from 1989 to 1991. She also captained the Sri Lanka Junior Women’s Basketball Team at the Asian Championships in Manila in 1989. University of Toledo was introduced to Sri Lanka by SUSA early this year. It is one of 14 state universities in Ohio established in 1872 and became a member of the state university system in 1967. The University of Toledo and the Medical University of Ohio merged July 2006 to form the third-largest public university operating budget in the state. The University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. With around 23,000 students it offers over 300 undergraduate, graduate and professional programs.
