SLIIT 2015/2016 intake for IT, Engineering and Business degrees now open

SLIIT, the leading degree awarding institute in the fields of IT, Business and Engineering has commenced enrolment of students to undergraduate degree programs for the academic year 2015/2016. Students who wish to follow degree programs at SLIIT and their parents are invited to attend the open day on 19 September from 9 a.m. at SLIIT’s main campuses situated in Malabe and Kollupitiya and established centres at Matara, Kandy, Jaffna and Kurunegala. Parents and students interested in meeting representatives from overseas partner universities of SLIIT can visit the Malabe campus on 18 September. 

SLIIT with its foreign partner universities has carved out many pathways for students to complete their degrees at SLIIT or to transfer to the respective partner university after two years of study at SLIIT.

The four year SLIIT BSc (Hons) degree in Information Technology is available in six fields of specialisation: Information Technology, Computer Systems and Networking, Software Engineering, Interactive Media, Information Systems and Cyber Security. 

Entry requirements for SLIIT IT degree programs are three passes at the G.C.E A/L examination (Sri Lanka/London) or equivalent in any subject stream at one and the same sitting, and a pass at the aptitude test conducted by SLIIT. In addition to the above qualifications, admissions to the Computer Systems and Networking degree require students to have a pass in Mathematics or Physics. Students also have the option to follow the IT degree through Curtin University – Australia or Sheffield Hallam University – UK in Sri Lanka.  

Buddhini Dias, a first year IT student at SLIIT and a recipient at the Sri Lanka school colours awards in 2009 for carom noted, “The exposure I have gained at SLIIT by participating at every competition and the environment created by my team mates and lecturers has helped me to excel in carom. SLIIT has created many opportunities for my peers and I, in terms of academics and extra-curricular activities.”  

Students interested in pursuing a career in Engineering have the option of obtaining a four year BSc. Engineering (Hons) degree in the following areas:  Civil, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Material, Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Entry requirements for these SLIIT Engineering degree programs are three passes at the G.C.E A/L Math stream including a credit for Mathematics or Physics, along with a pass at the aptitude test conducted by SLIIT. 

Students also have the option to complete Engineering degrees through Curtin University – Australia or Sheffield Hallam University – UK in Sri Lanka.

The four year BBA (Hons) degree has specialisations in Marketing Management, Accounting and Finance, Human Capital Management, Quality Management and Management Information Systems. Entry requirements for the SLIIT Business program are passes in three subjects (in any subject stream) at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination (Sri Lanka/London) in one and the same sitting and a pass at the Aptitude Test conducted by SLIIT. 

Commenting on the Business program, Kasun Aravinda, second year Business student and captain of the SLIIT Karate team said, “Being able to study at SLIIT gives me the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience to become a better management student. Within my first year at SLIIT, I joined the karate team and this year I won the best karate player award at the SLIIT colours night. I recommend SLIIT to any student who is seeking to complete their higher education.”
