Sri Lanka Foundation Language Unit launched

Widening the horizons of language education, Sri Lanka Foundation (SLF) launched the SLF Language Unit on 31 July 2012 at the SLF premises.

The SLF Language Unit will cover a variety of languages under two different categories – Classical and Modern. Students who join the Language Unit will be able to learn Sinhala, Tamil and English under the classical languages category, and Japanese, Korean, Italian and French, under the modern languages category.



The study programme will be structured as Basic, Intermediate and Advanced, and will eventually lead to the Diploma Level. Candidates from other recognised institutions who are adequately qualified would be considered for exemption from the preliminary study depending on their suitability.

Candidates who are eligible for membership of the SLF Language Unit will have the opportunity to engage in cultural events organised by the unit. Anyone who is desirousof learning the above mentioned languages can join the Language Unit regardless of age or any other restrictions.

Professor Neloufer De Mel, Professor of English at the University of Colombo, was the Chief Guest at the launch of the SLF Language Unit. Second Secretary to the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka Keita Iwase graced the event as the Guests of Honour.

Sri Lanka Foundation (SLF) which is the National Centre for Leadership, Education and Training coming under the purview of the Presidential Secretariat also offers a wide range of academic programs in diverse fields, which include film and television, tourism and hospitality management, psychology and counselling, social and institutional development, business and enterprise management and also ICT.
