Sri Lanka Technological Campus starts enrolment

The Sri Lanka Technological Campus, which was launched by President Maithripala Sirisena, together with Sri Lanka Telecom PLC Chairman P. G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena and of SLT Campus Ltd. Chief Executive Officer Ranjith G. Rubasinghe at TRACE Expert City in Maradana earlier this year, has commenced operations with student enrolments already underway.

The SLTC, a fully owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom PLC was embarked to fulfil the national need of expanding the provision of higher education in Sri Lanka by conducting quality undergraduate and post graduate degree programs including programs of globally reputed and high ranked universities. SLTC as a new initiative helps expand the much needed university-industry collaboration and to help build the nation through a qualified, dedicated next generation of individuals.

Classes underway at SLTC City campus



At the moment, the SLT Campus has professional courses that are specially designed to provide sound theoretical, practical and analytical knowledge with the fundamentals of engineering and technology to prospective students. To date, over 10 students have been processed and enrolled under the engineering and technology programs.

According to a statement by the SLTC, students eligible for enrolment must have minimum passes in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics in the Advanced Level (local or London), or pending results in the above or any equivalent qualification (subject to approval by the Academic Panel of the SLTC).

“This is like a dream come true for me,” said 19-year old Akeel Mohamed. “Engineering has been a lifelong dream for me and with the lack of means to study overseas, this is the best option for me.”

Akeel is a past pupil of D S Senanayake College, Colombo 8 and hopes to fulfill his dreams of becoming an engineering professionalDFT-12-3 and then contribute to the future of the nation’s infrastructure development. He was also happy that the SLTC has been endorsed by the nation’s telecom giant, Sri Lanka Telecom which will give his future degree credibility.

Also commenting on her enrolment, 20-year old Yasasmi Paramullage said, “So far, everything has been perfect and I look forward to the weeks ahead as I embark on my university education at SLTC. I am studying electronic engineering and the SLT backend will give me opportunities to apprentice under the best possible conditions. The processes are in place and lectures have started at the well-equipped City Campus.” Yasasmi is a past student of Musaeus College, Colombo.

The SLTC City Campus, located at TRACE City conducts professional courses, certifications and training and administrative operations such as student registrations for the campus. Two-year diploma programs can be followed by B.Sc. Hons. (Eng.) (Electronic and Power Engineering), B.Sc. Hons. (Eng.) (Electronic and Communication Engineering) and B.Sc. Hons. (Eng.) (Electronic Engineering and Engineering Management). The City Campus can accommodate up to 300 students while the Padukka Campus can accommodate up to 300 students in its sprawling 35-acre property. The main campus at Padukka is slated to open by early 2016.
