Speaking of her experience, Sajindu said: “As soon as I completed my Cambridge Advanced Level examination, I was faced with a dilemma of what I should choose for my higher education. I noted that in Sri Lanka’s corporate context, employers give a higher weightage to a professional qualification over a mere academic qualification. The main reason for this is because recruiting employees who are members of a recognised professional body gives the employer the opportunity to be endowed with the status and respect that is conveyed by the professional body to the industry. In this sense, the ACCA qualification stood out as it offers both those options! In fact, being a member of a professional body such as ACCA is a visible mark of quality, competence and commitment and such professional recognition is becoming increasingly important as the world becomes more competitive.
“Furthermore, in light of the recent corporate scandals blighting industries world over, ACCA’s strong focus on ethics would further enhance employer confidence that they are recruiting ethical professionals. On the other hand, being equipped with both a professional qualification, as well as an academic qualification gives an even higher edge and the BSc. (Hons) in Applied Accounting offered by the Oxford Brookes University, UK in partnership with ACCA bears testimony to that.
