Sri Lankan students exceed global average at Edexcel Int. Advanced Level Exams

David Crowther, the Director of International Products and Global Partnerships, Pearson Qualifications International, UK was here in Sri Lanka to conduct a series of presentations at the Pearson Edexcel Education Forum for principals, teachers, parents and students on International Advanced Level and progression opportunities for further education. One of the key highlights made by David was the higher performance of Sri Lankan students exceeding the global average.

“I would like to congratulate the students on their performance, which even exceeded the global average. The Sri Lankan students have performed exceptionally well,” Crowther said. 10.7% of Sri Lankan students who completed the International Advanced Level qualification received A* grades in comparison to the 10.2% global average, while 18.1% Sri Lankan students received A grades, compared to the 17.4% global average, it was proudly revealed at the forum which span across five days covering five key cities in the country. During the forum, several students weighed in on their experiences with Edexcel. “I can whole heartedly say that the Edexcel system is a very competitive and challenging system,” said Shasidar Sureshkumar of Asian International School. “The support material found on the website helps in all situations of distress a student would have to deal with and so ease the difficulty of having to find past papers or reference material on the go,” he added. Gimhani Abeygunasekara of Colombo International School also shared her experience about completing an Edexcel A Level qualification. “The flexibility provided by Edexcel’s two-part modular A level system allowed me to adequately pace myself and structure my studies to meet the required grades necessary to gain entry to medical school,” she said. Gimhani has already been accepted into the University of New South Wales in Australia to pursue a degree in medicine. “Effectively, Edexcel focuses on your innovativeness, on-the-spot thought, and encourages making logical connections: in essence building on bridging the incumbent gap between qualifications acquired and the skills required in almost any field in the long run,” said an elated Navidu Samarakkodi from Gateway College, Colombo who has been accepted into Imperial College in the UK to pursue engineering. In addition to the students who delivered their testimonials at the event, it was announced at the forum that several other students have already secured spots in top universities around the world. Some of these prestigious educational institutions include Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick, Imperial College London, UCL, Columbia University, McGill University in Canada, Pennsylvania State University, Monash University in Australia and King’s College in UK, to name a few. Apart from the International Advanced Level globally recognised suite of qualifications, Edexcel also delivers an array of BTEC qualifications spanning from Level 2 to Level 5 that helps students to progress through the vocational route to gain entrance to top international universities.
