Winners of the Sri Lanka Country Finals, team Paragon Consultants from the University of Moratuwa, will represent the country and compete with 25 other teams in the 2015 CIMA GBC Global Finals to be held from 3-7 August in Warsaw, Poland.

In the Sri Lanka Country Finals, the competition task required the teams to initially present a report on a business case pertaining to the oil and gas industry. Due to the sheer unfamiliarity of this industry in the country, it was a demanding task and Paragon Consultants rose to the challenge admirably delivering a well thought out business case. Team Paragon Consultants is represented by Sirimevan Jayasundera, Piyumi Bandaranayake, Hasindu Siyambalape and Chamanthi Jayaweera – all undergraduate students from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa.

The two-day GBC Global Finals will take place in two rounds, with the first round taking place on 5 August. The teams will be split into three groups, selected randomly from a draw held on 3 August; and each group will present simultaneously to different panels of judges. The top two teams from each group will proceed to the second round on 6 August and they will be given several hours to work on an extension of the case study; followed by a question and answer session by the panel of judges.

In preparation for the finals, the Sri Lankan team has undergone mentoring sessions by:

CIMA Regional Director – Middle East, South Asia and North Africa Bradley Emerson, University of Colombo Department of Finance Lecturer Ganga Fernando, Hayleys Energy Services CEO Chas Charles, NDB Investment Bank Vice President Senaka Kakiriwaragodage, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority Deputy Director General – Operations Harsha Wickramasinghe, Copal Amba Senior Vice President Zohair Haiderally, York Street Partners Managing Director Jayamin Pelpola, CIMA Sri Lanka Toastmasters Club Charter President Padmini Samarasinghe and 2014 CIMA GBC Global Finals Team Leader and Winner Samanmali Herath.

lt is anticipated that this year’s national representatives could emulate the success of the previous years, in which the Sri Lankan team (from the University of Colombo) was judged the winners of the 2014 CIMA GBC Global Finals.
