Student loans from Seylan Bank – Special Offer at EDEX 2011

The Seylan Bank launched Seylan Scholar, a higher education loan scheme in May 2010 to meet the exorbitant costs that often overshadows a good education. Seylan scholar provides financial backing to parents as well as working persons/professionals to further their education.  

During the past few years there has been a rapidly growing trend for parents to send their children overseas for a university education or even spend vast sums on higher education locally. However financial constraints have been a severe prohibitive factor. With this new scheme Seylan Bank is both proud and happy to redefine the boundaries of higher education and make it possible for a larger number of Sri Lankan youth to pursue a higher education



This loan scheme has been especially designed to help parents fund the higher education of their children. It paves the way for their children to obtain an overseas degree from a reputed university or even acquire a professional qualification such as CIMA, CIM, etc.

 ‘SEYLAN SCHOLAR’ also enables professionals and employed persons to acquire further qualifications including post graduate, such as an MBA by providing access to hassle free funding with flexible options.

Seylan Scholar is open to salaried employees, professionals and businessmen with loans ranging from LKR. 100,000 to LKR 7.5 million. Offering further flexibility, relatives meeting the said criteria can also apply for loans on behalf of family members with repayment extending up to a maximum of 7 years at attractive rates of interest.

Seylan Scholar also carries with it a Loan Insurance Cover for death and disablement

A special offer will be extended to those applying for loans at EDEX 2011, by way of an interest concession of 1% as against the prevailing rates. Loans will be priced from a low of13% p.a. upwards with an installment of LKR 1,820 per month for a borrowing of LKR 100,000. The same benefit will be applicable in the case of a parent applying for a second loan to educate another child. In addition to the above, loan documentation charges will also be waived off. Furthermore applicants will entitled for a Visa Electron Debit card free of charge which enables a student to withdraw money from any part of the world.

All these benefits are available to customers who visit the Seylan Bank stall number 201F, Hall E at the BMICH, Colombo 7 from 22-24 January 2011. Bank officers present at the Seylan Bank stall will be available for further information.  Applications received during the said period will be processed at any one of the Bank’s 95 branches, spread throughout the island bearing in mind customer convenience.
