Study at a university as diverse and dynamic as London itself

The UK is recognised as a valuable source of innovation and expertise in higher education. The British Council’s relationship with the UK’s higher education sector has provided a lot of benefits for students studying in the UK and has managed to connect educational leaders and innovators across the world.

The British Council’s association with London Metropolitan University has opened many opportunities for students in Sri Lanka. Tracing back to its origin in 1848, London Metropolitan University is the largest single University in London and one of the largest in the UK, with 30,000 students from over 160 countries, which allows the university to offer its students a truly international environment. Over 100 students from Sri Lanka study at London Metropolitan University, which has been one of the most popular choices of study for students from Sri Lanka.  London Metropolitan University is fully recognised by professional bodies such as ACCA, CIMA and ICAEW, as well as the Law Society and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. The teaching quality at the university was rated as “Excellent” in the most recent Government (QAA) review.

London Metropolitan University offers a range of scholarships to aid students who excel at their academics and need financial support to continue their higher studies. Each year over 1500 applications are considered for eligibility. Even though around 40 scholarships are awarded at postgraduate level, only 3 full scholarships are available for undergraduates, making it a highly competitive scholarship on a global scale. The scholarship covers the cost of the entire course of study, including tuition and accommodation costs. To be eligible for the scholarship, students must hold an excellent academic track record, be involved in extra-curricular activities, and should be from a country listed in London Metropolitan University’s priority country list. It is with much pride to Sri Lanka that the university awarded full scholarships to two Sri Lankan students recently. Kalindu Perera was awarded a full scholarship to follow a BSc in Pharmacology in September 2011 and Abrar Mohammed was awarded a full scholarship to pursue an MSc in Embedded Systems in February 2012. After completing his BEng (Hons) Electronic and Communications Engineering from London Metropolitan University in 2011, Abrar was awarded the “University Recognition Award for Academic Excellence, Best First Class Honours Award - Top Forty Students” and the “Best undergraduate Technology student.
