Thames College introduces short courses in hospitality, travel and tourism

Thames College has taken yet another initiative in introducing internationally recognised ‘gold standard’ short courses. These short courses are introduced mainly for the time constrained individuals who are unable to complete a hotel or tourism management course that can take up to three to four years. The lecture schedule for short courses would be held during weekends /weekdays with only three hours per week, while the total duration of the course is three months. The students following these short courses will receive a globally recognised ‘gold standard’ certificate from Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH – UK).   The short courses will commence in June 2014, and the courses currently on offer include; Room Division operations, Room Division Supervision, Food & Beverage operations, Food & Beverage Supervision, Food & Beverage Management, Travel & Tourism Operations, Travel & Tourism Supervision, Tour Operations Management, Sustainable Tourism & Destination Management, Facilities Management, Customer Relationship Management, Management and Leadership Across Cultures, Hospitality & Tourism Marketing Strategies and Hospitality & Tourism Strategic Planning. These short courses will prepare both current and prospective employees to gain required knowledge of expertise in their specific area of interest within a short span of time to cater to the needs of the ambitious target of 2.5 million tourists by 2016 set by the Economic Development Ministry. Furthermore, short courses allow filling gaps in the specific knowledge area and gaining particular skills that may be needed for a career development. It also shows the employer that you are proactive and that you care for continuous professional development (CPD). The greatest benefits of these short courses are that they are practical and convenient. They allow the individual to continue current lifestyle while improving skills and their CV.
