Trinity College, Kandy triumphs in ‘IT Mastermind – 2011’

Trinity College, Kandy, won the first place of the ‘IT Mastermind 2011’ Inter School Quiz tournament organised by the Computer Society of Sri Lanka (CSSL) and fully sponsored by ESOFT Computer Studies Pvt Ltd.



Accordingly, the laptop computer worth Rs. 75,000 being the prize for the first place winner, and the set of computer peripherals worth Rs. 100,000 being the prize for the first place winner’s school were presented to the Principal of Trinity College Kandy, Brigadier Ariyarathne recently by ESOFT Computer Studies Pvt Ltd Managing Director and the Computer Society of Sri Lanka Secretary Dr. Dayan Rajapakse.

Thousands of students from all districts in Sri Lanka entered this quiz competition and after a grueling contest that lasted for three months and several strenuous rounds, Trinity College Kandy student Chathura Samarasinghe bagged the first place. All the preliminary rounds and the final round of the tournament were telecast over the Independent Television Network.

Applications for the ‘IT Mastermind 2012’ quiz tournament are accepted till 25 February.  Students of national and international schools aged between 15 to 18 years are eligible to apply for this quiz tournament by visiting the website at www.itmastermind.lk.

The applicants who expect to participate in this quiz program have to face a web-based test initially and a written test subsequently.  108 students will be selected for the first round and they will be grouped into 18 groups of six each. Winner and the first runner up of each quiz in the first round enter into the second round.  There will be six quizzes in the second round and the winners of them will be selected for the final round.  Entire quiz programme will be telecast over the Independent Television Network (ITN) as 30 minute programmes for a period of six months, once per week.

The 108 students who qualify for the first round will be presented with valuable certificates and the six students that qualify for the final round will be presented a voucher worth Rs.15,000 and a medal each.  

The winner of the final round will be presented a laptop computer worth of Rs.75, 000 and his or her school will be presented with Rs.100,000 worth of computer peripherals. The winner of the second place will be presented with a desktop computer worth of Rs.50,000 and his or her school will be presented with computer peripherals to the value of Rs.50,000 and the winner of the third place will be presented with a SlimTop computer with a value of Rs.35,000 and his or her school will be presented with computer peripherals to the value of Rs.25,000.

The CSSL is the apex body representing ICT Professionals in Sri Lanka, and is working with national responsibility for the upliftment of the ICT field of the country.
