UCSC deploys first-ever government vCloud

University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) became the first-ever governmental institute and first-ever academic institution to own a Software Defined Data Centre powered by Vmware vCloud suite. With this new Development University of Colombo School of Computing now has a private cloud infrastructure consisting of Cloud Infrastructure and Cloud Management technologies that enables Server Virtualisation, Network and Security Virtualisation, Storage Virtualisation, Operations Management, Availability, Automation, Orchestration and Provisioning. This allows the UCSC to automate most of the data centre operations, centralise the management of IT operations and create a highly reliable ICT infrastructure stated UCSC Director Professor Gihan Wikramanayake. He further stated that UCSC has plans to extend this cloud solution and Virtualisation model to promote energy efficiency and green IT initiations. “VSIS is proud to be a part of this project which is a remarkable milestone of the Sri Lankan University system.
